And so my journey begins!
So I’ve decided to dive right into the au naturale experience and have been reading up on the research as to what natural products are out there for testing. Fortunately, I’m no stranger to using a few natural items on my hair. I made a decision to include things like coconut oil and glycerin in my products early on. As it turns out, there’s lots of delicious and useful items to access out there to experiment with. You’re probably wondering how I go about choosing my natural products. Well, I’ll start at the beginning and evaluate my current needs.
My current hair ‘challenges’ at the moment include dryness, tangles, and product build up. Of course help is welcomed in the growth department and for my hair to be strong. From this, I started doing some digging and more reading into many of the natural products I already have in my routine. There are numerous products out there that are naturally great for hair and a few of them may or may not work for my curls but I knew a decision had to be made. So basically I based my shopping list below on what my hair challenges are, if the products were easily accessible, and of course price. Honestly, there were a few items that were just too expensive or either required too much effort to acquire, especially when there were so many other options that were cheaper and even more easily attained.
Below is my shopping list and I also gave a short description of some of the known benefits relevant to my hair:
- Flax Seed – Produces gel and promotes hair growth and scalp health because of the omega-3 fatty acids.
- Coconut Oil – Seals in moisture and strengthens hair and scalp.
- Aloe Vera juice – Conditions hair, reduces dandruff, promotes growth.
- Tea Tree Oil – Combats dandruff, itchy scalp and acts as a mild preservative to refresh spritzes.
- Glycerin – Draws moisture to the hair as an active humectant. Makes for a great spritz recipe.
- Avocado oil – Makes for a great liquid oil and light sealant that quickly absorbs into the skin.
- Castor oil – Makes for a great daily spritz. Stimulates hair growth and thickness.
- Extra virgin olive oil – Deep conditions. Makes for a great base to many recipes.
- Bicarbonate of soda – Cleanses and lifts build up from hair and scalp.
- Apple cider vinegar – Rinses the hair’s PH level back to normal.
Now off I go on my journey to even more glamorous curls and natural hair!
