Do You Know Your Teen’s Wash Routine?

If your short answer is, “Yes! I hear the shower running daily,” you probably don’t realize I’m talking about facial cleansing. Skincare in pre-teens and teens is a very important routine many of us busy moms often forget. It probably concerns your child more than you because, let’s face it, they are looking in the mirror, literally staring at their reflection, every morning before school, during locker breaks, after gym’s over, before a school social, or sometimes even before going to bed. In other instances, there’s not a care in the world and eating healthy may not be on your teen’s list of priorities and so scarfing down burgers and fries instead of a salad, may have them in denial as to why there’s a consistency of acne breakouts and skin blemishes. Once your child reaches that prepubescent age of surging hormones, it may sometimes result in unexpected skincare challenges. As parents and former teenagers ourselves, we learned that the effects of acne were not just skin deep, but that the experiences of having acne impacted our self-esteem. Let’s make a decision to teach our teens to be in control of skincare challenges and embrace the freedom to feel positive about their skin and themselves both inside and outside.

For my teens, a skincare routine is treated like a daily chore that includes washing in the morning when they wake up and again at night before they go to bed. It is my recommendation to use a three-step treatment system that includes a cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer such as Clear.now® Skincare System. It’s the only treatment system for acne that utilizes a patent-pending stabilized sodium chlorite in combination with salicylic acid which keeps pores clear, clean, and cared for. My teenagers absolutely LOVE this product because it exfoliates their skin, making it feel soft and smooth, it eliminates the dirt and bacteria they don’t see in the mirror, and it leaves their skin smelling delicious with a citrus cream scent.

It’s never too late to get your teen started on a skincare regime today. But remember, it’s also important to supplement your teen’s skincare routine with a healthy lifestyle as well. With a combination of school, work, socializing, and other extracurricular activities, both you and your teen are always on the go. Be sure to include lots of fruits and vegetables in your teen’s habits along with fitness and exercise. Prevention is one’s primary job as it relates to skincare because your ultimate goal is to have your teen look back once they’ve reached their 20s and 30s and realized early intervention resulted in maintaining a long-term youthful glow.
