8 Hair Resolutions for the New Year

Hello 2017! This year, I believe women around the country should make New Year’s resolutions that they can absolutely keep. Instead of making the resolution to lose 10 pounds in the next 2 days, for me, I’ve decided to make resolutions that any curly girl could keep, and that will also benefit my natural hair. What a concept! So here is a list of 8 hair resolutions to keep throughout 2017.

  1. Use the blow dryer as little as possible. Heat is never good for your hair. After a certain amount of heat, you start damaging your hair, which leads to frizz. Let your hair air dry as much as possible, although the occasional use of a diffuser is allowed when you’re running late and it’s only 25 degrees outside.
  1. Learn more hairstyles. I constantly find myself wearing my hair pulled back in a curly puff or up in a bun, and that’s it. As the year progresses I want to learn more things to do with my hair so I don’t get bored with it and become more creatively diverse without the straightener.
  1. Do more deep conditioning treatments. Right now, I deep condition my hair close to once a month. I want to get in a regular habit of doing these so my hair will be loaded with moisture. And this leads me to the next one…
  1. Experiment with DIY deep treatments. I say, with so many great recipes floating around, why not start? Anything involving honey and avocado not only sounds completely tasty to eat, but is extremely moisturizing for your hair. You can also save money by buying simple ingredients such as honey to use as a conditioner. If you need some recipes check out my article featuring yummy hair recipes.

  1. Switch to using a shampoo free method. Yes, I still shampoo several times a week, but I absolutely love my Satinique products. I know that co-washing (using conditioner only) helps control frizz while keeping your curls moisturized, but I just haven’t completely switched over yet. I’m going to try my best to limit the shampoo in these early months of 2017, and maybe I’ll see a huge difference in my curls.
  1. Learn the art of self-trimming and dusting. There are several benefits to being able to trim your hair yourself, including saving time and money, not to mention being able to style your hair exactly how you want. If you are in need of a touch-up, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t pick up this art so you can save your money.
  1. Keep up with the natural hair community. There are dozens of women out there who blog about their experiences of being natural as well as offer up tips. I want to follow them on a frequent basis so I can get advice as well as inspiration from ladies everywhere.
  1. Spread the curly word to women everywhere. I have a wavy-haired colleague and several friends who are naturally curly, and they all straighten their hair. I refuse to straighten anymore, and I love my curls! So, I want all of the naturally curly women in my life to feel the same way. I want to share products and knowledge with them so they too can love their natural side and show it off often. Not to mention it’s always fun to have friends who you can share products and tips with.
