Take out the stylish beads. Shake out the bobby pins. Wash away the excess gel. The holiday season has officially come to an end, and it’s time to breathe some new life into your hair. In addition to planning out your overall New Year’s resolutions, take the time this year to give these five New Year’s resolutions for your hair a chance.
Let these hair resolutions help you sparkle and shine with curly, vibrant, healthy hair all year long!
- Air-Dry Your Hair
It may seem daunting to put down your beloved blow dryer. But trust me, it’s for the health of your hair. Over time, the excessive heat and air pressure from your hair dryer can cause significant damage to your hair cuticles. Try opting for a partial blowdry. The less time your hair is exposed to extreme heat, the better off it will be in the long run. As far as other heat styling methods go, this new year, try your best to minimize the time you spend straightening your hair. Your curls will thank you!
- Start Taking Hair, Skin, and Nail Vitamins
Beauty radiates from the inside out—and as the saying goes, “You are what you eat.” And if you want super healthy hair this new year, it’s important to eat right and take the right kind of supplements. When you’re scouring the vitamin aisle, be on the lookout for supplements that are made specifically for hair. They’ll typically be chock-full of B vitamins, and some may contain iron (which can help some women with hair loss). I’ve talked about my safe and approved personal favorite in a prior post here.
- Make Time to Go to the Salon
Even though the busy holiday season has come to an end, that doesn’t mean that life has slowed down at all. Between the endless work meetings and countless other obligations, it might seem impossible to take time for yourself. This New Year, make a resolution to take more time for yourself—and that includes making time to go to the salon. Few things will make you feel more like a new, vibrant you quite like a new style or color.
- Use Only Natural Hair-Loving Haircare Products
2019 is the year to take care of your hair. And taking care of your hair starts with the types of haircare products you invest in. Don’t waste your hair’s potential with haircare products that rob your hair of essential nutrients. Instead, look for products that include ingredients like: Pro-vitamin B, Soy Protein, Keratin, and Argan oil. With these kinds of haircare products in your arsenal, your hair will not only look fabulous; it will feel amazing, too!
- Switch Up Your Hairstyle More Often
Not only will switching up your hairstyle from time to time keep your look fresh, it can also have a positive effect on the health of your hair. Pulling your hair back into a tight ponytail every day when you hit the gym can actually end up causing what’s called “traction alopecia.” Traction alopecia is a form of hair loss that’s caused by stress on your hair follicles due to tight hair styling. Thankfully, there are ways to avoid traction alopecia—the main way to dodge that bullet is by leaving your hair down on occasion. You can also try pulling it up in a loose bun or try using a more gentle hair tie. In any case, it never hurts to switch things up—especially when it comes to your style!
